Week 6 - BALT 4363 - Replit

The plan for this week's blog was to try out Replit. I have never used Replit before, so I went to ChatGPT and asked for suggestions on what to do on the website. I was pleasantly surprised by ChatGPT's response, and I thought it gave me some fun but simple ideas to try out. Its suggestions were to make a calculator app, a quiz game, or a Mad Lib generator. I ended up choosing the Mad Lib idea, so I went ahead and took this idea to Replit. I put in my name and email, and that I was a student, chose the free version of the membership, and put in the prompt "I would like to make a Thanksgiving Madlib." Not even 10 minutes later, it created a working interactive app that could generate multiple stories.

Okay, maybe it was not completely finished after ten minutes. I started inputting different words, and in the middle of this doing the website refreshed, and Replit replied with this explanation.

"Oops, it looks like the Mad Libs form is still a bit shy! When you click "Get Started," the blanks are supposed to be completely empty so you can fill them in fresh. However, some of the blanks are already filled with words like "big" or "grandmother," which isn't quite right and prevents us from testing if the reset button works properly. All other parts of the test, like creating a story or using the "Create Another Story" button, seem to be working as they should."

The app is fixing itself, which is amazing, but I still want to see it work properly. It took a few more attempts, but Replit was finally able to resolve the issue. This was the first story that I came up with.

"Last Thanksgiving, my family gathered around the fluffy table for our annual robot. My cousin prepared a(n) grumpy turkey that was so sleepy it could barely fit in the castle. For side dishes, we had oranges with gravy, smelly potatoes, and hats casserole. My little son accidentally kicked the cranberry sauce all over the balloon, which made everyone Laugh with laughter. After dinner, we all felt so Cold that we had to Ran on the couch. Then Uncle Tom Brady started telling his Happy stories about when he was a(n) Weatherman. We ended the day by Dancing and being thankful for our Chaotic family!"

While it isn't perfect, I was still very impressed with Replit as this whole process took around 20 minutes. Because I do not have the paid plan, I am not able to publish it. But even the free plan allows you to come up with 10 different ideas like this, and all I had to do was put in a prompt.
